Tibetan Language Resources - Lhasa, Kham, Amdo

Ado Rinpoche taught the abc of Tibetan language. Here is a handout (6 pages) I prepared for him and a recording (15 min) of what’s in the handout. This is in Kham dialect. The handout uses Tibetan Machine Unicode font. This will be useful to those who have learned Lhasa dialect basics and want to gain some exposure to Kham dialect.

The following (File 1 and File 2) is a reading-practice of kun bzang bla ma’i zhal lung ‘The Words of my Perfect Teacher’ in Kham dialect with Ado Rinpoche. It starts with Page 1. More exposure to Kham dialect for those who know a little bit of Lhasa dialect. File 3 is a little more advanced reading practice. It is the section on Impermanence, pg 42-44 in my edition of the book. (3 mp3 files, 1 hr, 15 min)

The following are a set of six recordings which covers the beginning of the kun bzang bla ma’i zhal lung ‘The Words of my Perfect Teacher’ I made with Sangye for my reading practice. This is the only way I could learn to read as I could not have a Tibetan person sitting with me all the time. Lhasa dialect - somewhere between beginner and intermediate level. (6 mp3 files, 1 hr, 39 min)

Nyima Rinpoche speaks Amdo dialect and I could not not find any colloquial Amdo learning resources. I requested Woser (his translator in Tibet) to prepare the Word document (148 pages) with example Eng and Amdo sentences, and requested Jigme Rinpoche to read the sentences in Amdo dialect (4 mp3 files, 1 hr, 57 min). You will need the Monlam Ouchan 1 font for the Word document. This is intermediate level material that will be useful to anyone with good Lhasa or Kham dialect exposure and who wants to learn Amdo. I myself have not benefitted much from this as by the time I got everything together, the situation changed. But perhaps it will be useful to someone else. This is free for educational use.

The following are a set of ‘Tibetan /Wylie Transliteration /English Meanings’ language learning resources I prepared as part of my own learning of Dharma Tibetan. This is what I have found useful the most. You will need either Tibetan Machine or Tibetan Machine Unicode fonts to display these documents. It is possible there are mistakes in here as these were developed as part of my own learning process, but I believe sharing this will be more beneficial than harmful.
