Attachment / Desire / Greed
Craving is a sign of attachment. Attachment is bondage.
Wealth and possessions are necessary. Attachment is not.
Attachment gives rise to a need which was not there before. Need creates bondage.
Sense objects become like a rope that tie you up. Attachment is nothing more than
the state of the pretas. Keep alert mind on guard. Be content, whether elaborate
or simple.
If you have attachment, you cannot transfer consciousness. Bird cannot fly away if
it is tethered.
Transform desire into practice. Arise love and compassion. Generate the wish to benefit.
Practice contentment. If it’s here, it’s here. If it’s not here, it’s not here.
Don’t grasp as real. See as illusory. Like a reflection in the mirror.
Attachment is like a poison that tastes good, but it will still kill you.
‘Fear of losing’ is a sign of attachment.
Sustain mindfulness. Otherwise we will start thinking I am lost without this.
When we are grasping to external object, we are grasping to an internal ‘I’ at the
same time. This is duality.
This is an indication that mind has not turned.
The moment you are attracted to sense object, endure. Practice patience.
Offer object of attachment as a mandala. This is a very simple action but it reduces
self-grasping.
Like salt water, craving only increases.
When you see better, good seems bad. We attach because we don’t realize emptiness.
When you have attachmet, the result is cyclic existence.
Seed to be reborn in the human realm.
Keep awareness of empty of self-nature.
‘I need this to be happy.’ Then what happens when we don’t have?
Grasping is bondage.
Release conceptual thought into the natural state. Don’t grasp.
Make effort to lessen. It will take effort to get it out of the mindstream.
Purify over and over again – don’t get discouraged. Every time you purify, it gets
weaker.
Desire is unsatisfiable. We have taken so many lives, but still we are not satisfied.
More. Good. Better. These are deceptions of mind.
Be content with whatever you have. Temporary sustenance is all we need.
