Kusali / Chod
Kusali is the inner practice of generosity. Imagine you are repaying your debts throughout
this practice.
Realize the body is to be left behind. It is one night’s shelter. Lessen attachment
to body.
Generate the mind to give everything: body, wealth, merits. Give impartially. Please
the lama, yidam, buddhas and bodhisattvas. Fulfill the dakas, dakinis, dharma-protectors.
Satisfy the beings in the six realms - local gods, pretas. This is Chod practice.
Khro-ma [pronounced Tro-ma]: This refers to Nature of Mind.
Tripod stove: It spontaneously appears. It refers to the Three Kayas.
Short Ah at navel: This refers to the red seed of mother.
Ph’et: This is what does the cutting. ‘Ph’ refers to compassion. ‘Tha’ refers to
awareness.
Ah: This refers to resting in non-conceptual awareness.
Four Demons (Basic vehicle)
Mara of son of gods: This refers to pleasure. It makes us lazy. Don’t make offerings
to this demon.
Mara of death: We need to be alive to practice.
Mara of afflictive emotions:
Mara of aggregates/ body: Body is support for ‘self’.
