Love / Friendliness
Great love arises naturally if we have the wish to repay kindness.
What do mother sentient beings want? Happiness. Wish them happiness and causes of
happiness, which is virtue.
Put an end to attachment and aversion for love to arise.
Warmth that reaches out and embraces others is known as love or friendliness.
The mala functions because the beads are strung together. They maintain a relationship.
If you break the string, the beads scatter. The thread is samaya. Our samaya with
our teacher and fellow disciples is to maintain loving kindness.
Extend love towards those who are in tremendous pain, suffering, anguish, and fear.
Recite Tara mantra.
Accumulate habit of love.
Look at enemy with a kind face. Aspire that enemy should have causes of happiness.
Shut brain. Open heart. Value others. Value for others comes from heart, not brain.
I am asking you to change your heart, not your religion.
Teacher gives us project outside, purpose is to work on the heart inside. The work
is inside. Look for progress inside, not outside.
When love fills your heart, it is not difficult to act for the benefit of others.
Love is water. Compassion is sprout. You need love for all sentient beings to make
compassion come out.
Bodhisattva approach is to change inside. The dirt is inside. If you rub the mirror,
it will not clean your face. The way to teach them is to love them.
Who is near medicine? Sick people. In dharma center, sick people come. Don’t expect
people to be wonderful.
Depending on love, practice generosity, discipline, patience.
When you are in love, you worry about that person. If you have love, you will worry
about sentient beings.
Understand that whoever you have the greatest love for, we have had such connections
with every sentient being at one time or another.
Love when directed at buddhas is devotion, when directed at sentient beings is compassion.
Animals can’t complain – so think for them.
Beings must experience the fruition of whatever karma they have accumulated. But
to whatever degree we can cultivate loving kindness, to that degree beings will experience
corresponding benefit.
Kindness is action that makes other happy.
Love is how to break the barrier separating self and others.
When you feel love for one sentient being, expand this love.
All beings have love. Even wild animals take care of their babies. But our love boils
down to attachment and self-grasping. Buddha’s love is selfless, unconditional.
Pray that we do not become harmful to sentient beings.
Show special love and compassion to those who have come a long way, those who are
old and sick.
Radiate love to all sentient beings. Don’t think about whether you are close or not.
Discipline your children. This is part of bodhisattva’s love.
